Capstone Poster Outline

Title:
Painting What We See Within

Thesis:
Although art therapy has proven itself to be credible over and over again, researchers and scientist refuse to acknowledge art therapy with respect.  Art Therapy has the ability to help thousands of people; however, if it is not respected, it cannot gain clients and cannot be beneficial to society.

Body Paragraph One:
This paragraph explains the actual definition of art therapy.

1. “art therapy is one of the earliest forms of communication, dating back to the Paleolithic age. Art therapy has been increasingly beneficial and effective in the treatment of various types of both mental and physical conditions"
2. “customizable to the ever-changing life of the patient”

Body Paragraph Two:
This paragraph discusses the meaning of art therapy and how people often misinterpret its actual purpose.

1. “people new to art therapy are often confused about just what the term art therapy means. While it was coined to describe the use of art expression in therapy, it frequently generates some unusual assumptions”
2. “a wide range of people. The use of art therapy has been documented with a variety of people including children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly; people with addictions; individuals with serious and sometimes terminal diseases; war veterans; people with disabilities; families experiencing disabilities; prisoners; and individuals experiencing a wide spectrum of emotional disorders”
 3. “art therapy is a dynamic experience, requiring one to participate in one’s owns treatment, in this case through art making. Therefore, truly understanding art therapy requires firsthand experience”

Body Paragraph Three:
This paragraph discusses the benefits of white therapy.
1. "for those whose capacity is limited or non-existent or for those who cannot find the words for their experiences”

Citation: Kelly, Jo. "What is Art Therapy and How do we Know it Works? An Australian Perspective on the Need for More Research." International Journal Of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences 5.5 (2010): 255-259. Academic Search Complete. Web. 7 Oct. 2014.

Conclusion:
My solution to help stop this issue is to spread awareness about art therapy and its benefits.
